The Heart Behind 4D Hoops

Get to know our mission, our people, and the why behind everything we do to support athletes and families.

Our Story

At 4D Hoops, we believe basketball should be more than just a sport—it should be a vehicle for lifelong growth. Founded with the goal of redefining youth sports, 4D Hoops was born out of a passion for creating an environment where young athletes can thrive not only on the court but also in life.

We saw the challenges in youth basketball firsthand:

  • Programs prioritizing wins over development.
  • A culture that fosters burnout and discourages multi-sport participation.
  • A lack of focus on the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of growth.

We knew it was time to reimagine what youth basketball could be. That’s why 4D Hoops is built on a mission to empower young athletes to Win the Game of Life by focusing on the four dimensions of human development: physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.

If you’re looking for a program that goes beyond the scoreboard, you’ve found your team.

Our Mission

To empower young athletes to become leaders on and off the court by developing the whole person.

Our Vision

We believe in offering a basketball experience that’s about more than just the sport.

At 4D Hoops, we encourage kids to enjoy the process, play alongside like-minded peers, and grow in a positive environment that develops the whole athlete—mind, body, spirit, and emotions.

We’re building a culture where coaches lead with character, families feel supported, and players grow in confidence, resilience, and purpose.

We’re not just helping kids become better athletes...
We’re building leaders for life.

The 4D Philosophy

At 4D Hoops, we believe true success comes from developing the whole person—on and off the court. Our four-dimensional approach focuses on:

  • Physical Development: Building athleticism and conditioning for strong, healthy bodies and peak performance.
  • Mental Fitness: Teaching athletes to stay calm, confident, and focused under pressure.
  • Emotional Intelligence: Guiding players to understand, express, and manage their emotions.
  • Spiritual Mastery: Encouraging self-awareness and connection to what truly matters, while helping athletes understand their identity is much more than what they do on the court.

This approach prepares our athletes to thrive on the court and grow into resilient, respectful, and resourceful leaders in life.

OUR CORE VALUES

Be "GUTSI" to “Win the Game of Life”

At 4D Hoops, we’re not just developing basketball players—we’re building leaders for life. Our core values form the foundation of everything we do. We call it “being GUTSI” because it takes heart, courage, and integrity to grow into the best version of yourself. These values shape how we train, compete, learn, and lead—on and off the court.

Growth Mindset – “1% Better Every Day”

We inspire our athletes to grow daily—not just in their game, but in life. Developing a growth mindset builds resilience, confidence, and the belief that effort leads to progress.

Unity Teamwork Makes the Dream Work”

Success is never achieved alone. We teach athletes to support one another, contribute selflessly, and understand that united teams go further—on the court and in life.

Thankfulness – “Live with an Attitude of Gratitude”

We foster humility and perspective by encouraging athletes to appreciate the opportunities they have and the people around them. Gratitude builds stronger teammates, better leaders, and a more grounded mindset.

Servant Leadership – “Lead for Others. Lead by Example”

We believe true leadership starts with service: putting others first, leading with empathy, and focusing on the team. We teach our athletes that the best leaders lead by example, both on and off the court.

Integrity – “Do What’s Right—Every Time”

We emphasize making honest choices and staying true to your values, even when no one is watching. We remind our athletes that, "how you do anything is how you do everything"—and that strong character shows up in every part of life.

Being GUTSI means living with purpose. These values don’t just help our athletes win games—they prepare them to win in life.

Founder’s Story

Coach Jim Huber

"Coaching is more than basketball; it’s a vehicle for life-changing impact."

From a young age, I was drawn to all sports—basketball, football, baseball. I loved the competition, the friendships, and the lessons that came with them. I was fortunate to grow up under coaches who emphasized effort, character, and discipline. They set a foundation that shaped my love for coaching and my belief in the life lessons found in sport.

In college, I played and later coached under a mentor who taught much more than X’s and O’s. He challenged us to carry notebooks, study quotes, and reflect on who we were becoming. That experience opened my eyes. Basketball wasn’t just about winning—it was about growth.

At the same time, I saw the other side of athletics: pressure-filled environments, poor coaching practices, and a win-at-all-costs mentality that left lasting scars. I knew there had to be a better way.

Years later, when a friend asked me to coach his son’s 6th-grade team, I hesitated. I had coached college basketball—was this really a step forward? But I said yes, and what followed was one of the most meaningful coaching experiences of my life. It reminded me that middle school is a critical window. Kids are still open to being molded—not just into better players, but into better people.

As I coached more teams and built competitive programs, I started to realize that many players were underdeveloped—not physically, but mentally and emotionally. A turning point came when a gifted player I coached crumbled under anxiety and self-doubt. My first instinct was to push him harder, but later that night, I broke down. I realized I had no tools to support him in the areas that mattered most. And in truth, I saw parts of myself in him—talented, but quietly battling insecurity and fear.

That moment changed everything. I began to study mindset, emotional intelligence, and leadership. I made it my mission to build athletes who were strong in every dimension—mentally, emotionally, physically, and spiritually. Over the years, I helped grow elite programs, led national camps, and trained thousands of players and coaches. But I knew we needed a system that served every kid, on every team, at every level—with consistency, care, and character.

That’s what 4D Hoops is all about. We’ve built a culture where basketball is the tool—not the goal. We use the game to teach life, and we work hand-in-hand with parents and coaches to help kids grow into confident, resilient leaders. Whether they’re elite or still developing, every young player deserves to grow and be prepared for life. That’s the mission, and the standard, we live by.

At 4D Hoops, we believe great coaching goes beyond the court—it’s about building relationships, inspiring growth, and creating leaders for life.

The main goal for our coaching staff is to develop our players into well-rounded individuals who have opportunities to play in high school and beyond if desired. But more importantly, teach leadership and life skills that will assist players to WIN the game of life!

The 4D Hoops coaching staff embodies the same passion, expertise, and dedication as our founder, ensuring every player feels valued and challenged in a positive, supportive environment.

  • Expertise You Can Trust: Each coach brings their own unique basketball experience and a commitment to developing athletes on and off the court while creating a positive, growth-focused environment for every player.
  • Coaching Philosophy: We focus on positionless basketball, skill development, and fostering a love for the process. Our practices emphasize man-to-man defensive principles and motion offense concepts, helping players become well-rounded, skilled basketball players who truly understand how to play the game—not just run plays—while also prioritizing personal growth and character development.
